特斯拉、雅虎、易趣和Ebay等诸多大公司都在去年进行了大幅裁员,而ServiceNow、Facebook和LinkedIn等公司则实现了人员大幅增长,全球员工人数增加了15%甚至更多。

《硅谷商业杂志》(Silicon Valley Business Journal)分析了领英(LinkedIn)的官方数据,此数据表明了哪些硅谷大型科技企业正在全公司范围内增员,哪些在裁员。

在大多数情况下,公司员工的增长与工程师人数的增长不成比例。

ServiceNow的员工总数增加了23%,工程人员增加了30%,而Facebook的员工比一年前增加了15%,工程师则增加了23%。

人力资源中介机构Kelly Services的副总裁威尔逊(Genine Wilson)说,增加大量员工的公司为了避免将来的经济衰退,可能会加倍投入研发。

Wilson对《硅谷商业杂志》的分析表示:”许多公司都处在这样一个节点,如果它们保持停滞不前,它们就会倒退。

因此,许多公司选择将大量资金将投入到研发项目中,以应对未来的变化。

如今科技不断发展,技术更新节奏迅速,许多公司必须保持领先,不被市场淘汰。”

不过,也不是所有科技公司都是如此,弗里蒙特(Fremont)芯片制造商Lam Research Corporation就是一个例外。该公司去年的员工总数增加了3%,同时裁减了1%的工程师。

即使是在当前的经济周期,也不是所有的大型科技公司增加的员工数量都大于流失的员工数量。

去年,甲骨文公司、SAP和惠普企业的全球总员工数保持不变,但惠普和甲骨文分别增加了1%和2%的工程人员。

Wilson说,那些劳动力没有增长的公司可能在争夺人才方面遇到了困难,

“很多公司都有职位空缺,但它们却没有增长,因为它们无法吸引和留住所需的人才。”

同时,有些公司正好相反,裁员的数量比他们增加的数量还要多。

特斯拉、雅虎、eBay和Juniper Networks在去年都进行了大幅度裁员,其中Verizon Communications旗下的雅虎裁员7%,特斯拉裁员8%。这些裁员甚至影响到了工程岗位,雅虎损失了7%的工程师,特斯拉损失了4%。

Wilson说,在某些情况下,公司在收购没有按计划进行后会进行裁员。

他还表示:“这些大公司因为实力雄厚,可以用更少的时间完成更多的工作,所以他们不会有大量的新人涌入,因为这些新人的起步和发展需要更长的时间。”

留学生们在北美求职的时候其实更应该多得把注意力放到具有潜力的中小企业上,相比较大公司而言这些中小企业里会有更多的求职机会,也会更好的求职成长路径。
