个人认为对应届生来说,GS非常看中soft skill,因为有足够多的training,相比“面试者是不是技术过硬”来说GS更看中“面试者是不是很聪明,能很快学会自己不会的东西并且出色地完成工作”。

他对面试者的technical skill要求相比科技公司会宽松很多,面试中更大比例侧重聊经历,behavioral questions和case questions。

FB或者说大多数科技公司对technical skill的要求就会高很多,面试中会给你白板考察programming skill(主要是复杂的SQL还有简单的python/r)和统计知识。

FB还非常看中product sense,如何理解一个产品,怎么选metrics,当metrics太低时怎么分析原因和寻找机会,怎么设计和分析实验等等。

因为题目没有统一答案并且问起来非常灵活,这也是很多没有相关经验的面试者容易挂的地方。

从工作内容、两家公司的文化、还有面试侧重点来说,同学们可以根据自己所擅长的领域去做相应的选择。

除了具体工作岗位以外,留学生们最关心的身份问题,这两个公司其实在各自行业都是对留学生非常友好的公司,大多数职位都sponsor H1B,没抽到签可以帮你relocate到其他国家的office然后继续抽或者以L签回来,FB更是一进公司就可以开始办绿卡。Diversity上两个公司的中国人都很多,不会有华人受歧视的感觉。

总结

首先我觉得要根据你的职业规划和性格来选择行业。

以我本身举例,我对金融产品其实并不是特别感兴趣,尤其是在有了相关工作经验后觉得完全不是自己想要做的东西。

还有就是对投行的中后台工作,我会觉得自己做的东西很cold没有意思,别人和我聊GS工作如何高大上我也完全没有感觉。

而且我还想往更technical方向发展做一些machine learning的东西,这些在我之前的工作里实在是不怎么用得上。

在 FB工作会让我觉得很valuable,我能直接看到我的impact,比如做的分析会真的帮助别人做决定,跟的产品变化真的会影响用户。

我之前关系很好的GS同事就完全不一样,她就是典型的享受在wall street工作的人,比较喜欢穿的笔挺地坐在办公室里跟同事讨论经济形势,并且她非常喜欢金融,日常生活中每天都看wall street journal。

她之后跳到了PE做quant,GS的经历在她跳槽面试时也是一个非常好的卖点。

其次从福利角度来讲,科技公司的应届生数据岗给的package比金融公司的要好很多,公司有免费三餐,饮料小零食,免费保险,每年健身补贴等等,这点上比金融公司会大方很多。

最后从工作体验来讲,像投行,咨询还有四大这样的公司work life balance相对较差,经常加班到晚上11点。科技公司虽然也有很多血汗工厂但是总体来说work life balance好很多。


对应届生来讲我觉得在投行,咨询还有四大开启第一份工作是一个很好的选择,我不得不承认在GS的两年多时间我的soft skill被培养的非常扎实。

那么FB这样的公司相对来说我觉得挑战更大,在独立处理问题还有proactively的lead项目上你会进步地飞快。
