从政府安全到约会应用程序，几乎每个领域都需要数据科学专家。数以百万计的企业和政府部门依靠大数据来取得成功并更好地为其客户提供服务。数据科学事业的需求量很大，而且这种趋势目前不会很快减缓。

连续三年，数据科学家被 Glassdoor 评为美国第一工作。此外，美国劳工统计局报告称，到2026年，数据科学需求的增长将创造1150万个职位空缺。不仅需求巨大，而且合格的数据科学家也明显短缺。

第一件事：数据科学的今生

东北大学数据科学教授 Martin Schedlbauer博士说，数据科学由“具有收集，整形，存储，管理和分析数据技能的计算专业人员、”。几乎所有与技术的交互都包括数据-顾客购买的Amazon产品，Facebook feed，Netflix推荐信息，甚至是登录手机所需的面部识别。

亚马逊是一个典型的例子，Amazon的数据集会记住顾客购买的商品，已支付的商品以及搜索的商品。这使Amazon可以自定义其后续主页视图以满足顾客的需求。

同样，数据科学可以促进客户的习惯性购买。例如，如果顾客每个月订购一次狗粮，那么大数据的应用会使得客户再每个月的大约同一时间看到“有诱惑性的”优惠券或交易。这种使用数据的目的是作为触发因素，促使顾客思考：“我确实需要购买狗粮，现在刚好有促销活动，我确实应该现在就购买。”

数据科学对公司和消费者都有利。麦肯锡全球研究所（McKinsey Global Institute）发现，大数据可以使零售商的利润率提高60％，“个人位置数据支持的服务可以使消费者获得6000亿美元的经济顺差”，这意味着他们能够以更少的价格购买商品或服务超出了他们的预期。

例如，如果顾客预算200美元来购买剃须刀，但是通过搜索以150美元的价格找到了所需的精确模型，那么顾客的经济盈余将为50美元。

数据科学可以同时提高零售商的盈利能力并节省消费者金钱，这对于健康的经济是双赢的。

第二件事：数据科学的未来

根据上面的例子，我们认识到数据科学使零售商能够影响我们的购买习惯，但是数据科学的应用还在进一步扩展。

例如针对最近在全球爆发的新冠疫情，数据科学还可以通过可穿戴的跟踪器改善公共卫生，这些跟踪器可以激励个人养成更健康的习惯，并可以提醒人们注意潜在的严重健康问题。

数据还可以提高诊断准确性，加快寻找特定疾病的治愈方法，甚至阻止病毒的传播。

这个论断是有理可循的，当埃博拉病毒爆发于2014年袭击西非时，科学家们能够追踪该疾病的传播并预测最容易患该病的地区。这些数据帮助卫生官员提前控制了疫情，并防止其成为全球流行病。

数据科学在大多数行业中都有关键的应用。

例如，农民使用数据来提高粮食的有效生长和交付，食品供应商使用这些数据来减少食品浪费，非营利组织则使用这些数据来促进筹款工作并预测资金需求。

第三件事：数据科学与你

作为一个饱和度不高的高薪领域，数据科学已经改变了各行各业，数据科学是一个不断发展的领域，如果你想要在数据科学领域开展自己的职业篇章，那么着实需要“下一番苦功”。
