Defenders of Wildlife Future Leaders Project Plan Location: Remote Department: Human Resources Session: Fall 2020 Software Required: Start Date: Sept 8, 2020 End Date: ~Dec 11, 2020 Human Resources Intern – Fall 2020 Application Deadline: August 16 2020 Overall Objective of the Position: This role will support ongoing research and capacities in the Human Resources department. The intern will partner with our staff, conduct research, create reports and documents which will contribute to our ongoing mission to further our conservation mission, cultivate an inclusive and belonging environment, and continue to develop and foster talent exploration.   • Researching and synthesizing relevant reports of best practices
  • Providing functional support by researching problems and following up with end users to ensure their needs are met
  • Responding to requests for information from staff and external parties Project Work Plan: This work plan is general and may change based on organizational needs. (~2 weeks) 1. Offer Letter and Onboarding Best Practices and Research a. Research internal documents and confirm labor compliance in all operational states. 2. Performance Development Plan Best Practices and Industry Standards (~2 weeks) o Support research and policy analysis needs in Performance Development 3. Employee Engagement and Retention Research and Development (~4 weeks) a. Support research and policy analysis for development of Employee Engagement, Retention and Recognition b. Utilize Defenders’ style guide to adhere to Branding Guidelines i. Position Descriptions c. Review DEIJ communications standards across all documents and recommend possible improvements and implementation 4. Open Enrollment Benefits Support (~4 weeks) a. Reviewing and drafting communications for staff regarding Open Enrollment Process b. Exposure and support in Open Enrollment transactions Expectations:
  • Work schedule: o We expect a minimum 15 hours a week of work, with reasonable accommodation as necessary for academic needs. Your work schedule will fall between 9am-5:30pm Monday – Friday.
  • Check-ins and Guidance: o Expect weekly check-ins for progress reports; 30m-1hour depending on your needs in addition to support throughout your work. o We will undergo a midpoint and final performance review process with you to give feedback and support professional development


    Qualifications: Preference for currently enrolled students in related educational programs, especially Human Resources, Industrial Organizational Psychology and related subjects. Applicants must be self-starters driven by the opportunity to help transform culture communications in the conservation space while learning new skills. Interns should have a passion for wildlife conservation and/or Organizational Culture, strong research and analytical skills, a proven ability to work with people from a variety of backgrounds, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated computer proficiency within a Windows environment, and with Microsoft Office applications, with the willingness to learn new software applications
  • Proven business acumen, including strong problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Exemplary consulting and member service skills
  • Demonstrated facilitation and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to research information and effectively leverage resources
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional partners
  • Ability to manage conflict, partner, communicate professionally, be flexible, and able to prioritize and multi-task while working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities Compensation: Unpaid.
