Business Intelligence Developer

Position Summary
Synapsum is the SaaS analytics product arm of eShipping, a managed transportation company. The Business Intelligence Developer will work with Synapsum’s Head of Data & Analytics and eShipping Solutions, technology, and sales teams on business intelligence product development and systems innovation.
The Business Intelligence Developer will perform hands-on work including onboarding new customers, querying our multi-tenant database and semantic model to answer business problems, designing new product features, and enabling business intelligence through a multi-tenant SaaS solution. This role is hands-on, strategic, and fast-paced.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Perform data analysis and collaborate with the Synapsum team to make sense of source data – establish scope, identify important classifiers and filters, how to calculate KPIs, and ultimately determine how to map customer data to a standard semantic data model
- Capture requirements for business intelligence solutions from eShipping Sales and Solutions teams
- Develop business intelligence functionality in the Synapsum environment using our standards and industry best practices
- Develop a broad understanding of eShipping systems used for managing logistics and warehousing
- Identify commonly sought after needs and translate them into product and/or feature specifications for our data models, semantics, visualizations, predictive models, and simulations
- Monitor data feeds and outputs for gaps, errors, and corruptions, and actively work to resolve and prevent production challenges

- Knowledge of data pipelines sourced from business applications, and ETL/ELT
- Solid understanding of data management – monitoring data feed quality, metadata management
- Ability to work independently with minimal leadership oversight
- The ability to effectively interact with executives as well as Synapsum, Sales, Solutions, Account Management, and Operations teams
- Excellent customer service, time management, and prioritization skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in person and via phone
- Able to utilize sound, independent judgment and make responsible decisions and recommendations
- Excellent follow-through and detail orientation
- Ability to work with a variety of people and personality types
- Able to work within a fast-paced team environment
Minimum Education and Experience
- Experience interrogating data – identifying and fixing data gaps, evaluating quality, determining relationships between tables, classification
- Experience writing SQL
- Experience gathering business requirements, translating them into data and engineering requirements, and communicating those to the respective teams
- Experience working with Power BI, especially DAX
- Bachelor’s degree with a technical major
