我的2020年高盛面试Super Day:全程细节回顾+成功经验分享

经过了前面两篇所提到的全面前期准备,我终于迎来了令人紧张兴奋的Super Day!

GS的Super Day共有两轮的back to back的面试,一个面试房间两位面试者,面试官基本上都是VP。

第一个房间

主要内容:

自我介绍5%+Structural Questions(情景问题)70%+Technical Questions(写代码PYTHON +SQL)10%+随便聊聊15%。

在面试中,我遇到了一个典型的GS情景题:

老板出差了不回邮件但是塞给你一个report要做怎么办?

因为我从Consulting准备出身,所以用Consulting的方式来approach这个问题:

先和面试官make claim:我的manager可以不及时,但是偶尔回邮件吗?

面试官说不行。

Ok,那我们分情况讨论:

    1.知道老板要出差,那就尽快尽可能提前写完。

    2.没办法写不完了:

    a.以前做过这种类似的project,那就90%做10%,找个senior的人帮我check correctness。

    b.以前没做过,那就查阅资料 gs university, pdf, old files, previous report,自我学习。花费50%的时间,用40%时间做,10%找人帮忙check。

我觉得这个回答非常完美,清晰的表达了自己的严谨的思路。但是没有什么特色,只是一个没有什么吸引力的满分答卷。

这里为大家提供一个有意思的回答问题的方式:

面试官:老板说要你做个report,需要你100% correct。

我说:我永远没法做到100% correct,因为在stat上,我们永远只说一个result是95%,因为有confidence interval。

这里面试官都笑了好久,说:那你5%的人,就收不到正确的bonus怎么办?

虽然错了但是仍然表达了你的思维模式的被赞赏的回答方式。

然后是SQL问题:

SQL left join 可否return more rows than rows in the left table?

我一直在纸上写写画画,画出left table, right tabl,然后他们怎么join with unique key,然后给了一个斩钉截铁的答案 NO。

面试官说:其实是YES,但是因为你make assumption on keys are unique,所以他们不行。

我恍然大悟,说:Oh right!!! Yay, I didn’t think about this before。

他说:没关系,你说的其实也是对的,but I like your thinking approach!

接着是,把情景问题带到自己学过的technical知识点上:

比如问我一个data该如何处理:

我先说了简单的 NLP extract information,ML approaches。

因为是classification problem,所以我们可以用 linear regression, LDA, QDA。如果这些test MSE都太高,可以试试用 tree-based method, 比如random forest。

尽量的把面试官引导到你会的擅长的tech上去。当然一定要提前准备好,否则都是白搭。这些关键词给到,会让人觉得你思源广,点子多,并且非常data processing 功底深厚。

第二个房间

主要内容:

自我介绍5%+写码 (LeetCode)65%+Structural Questions(情景问题)20%+随便聊聊10%。

这一部分Tech问题就很基础,就很没意思。

但是回答的重点在于不能只说一个蠢方法,他一定会刨根问底的问下去,有没有优化的方式。

一道题做不出来不太要紧,但是一定要跟上面试官的思路,他说一个什么漏洞,你马上要跟一个补丁。Be confidence about yourself!

其实第二轮面试的时候,我第二个编程题脑袋已经有点空了,那个时候超累,有点跟不上思路。

最终还是幸运地还是拿到了offer,不负前期的辛苦准备和积累!

最后根据我的面试经验再给大家画几条重点!

  • Candidate profile

打印出来自己的projects带上!!!一定会用到!!!展现自己的时候就是此刻!!!

事实证明他们还是对你之前做过的project感兴趣,反正,一句话,能做多少准备,就做多少准备,不要怕麻烦,不要觉得多余。

  • 纸质 “thank you note card”

面试完后不要急着解放,出去在桌上写完每个人的thank you card放进信封,写好名字,交给HR,谢谢他帮忙转交。

  • 着装

能多正式就多正式,我在冬天面试穿了裙子高跟鞋。

  • WSJ和关于这个公司的新闻

我当天带了一份GS在一月的时候的新闻,说GS在engineering budget非常之高。

于是在第二个房间就跟面试官聊起来了,他们说我们view Google, Facebook as our competitors rather other investment bank。我还挺惊讶的。

  • Updated resume

有个面试官看我新的简历跟我旧的简历上,有个不同,比如我去掉了C++。他说这句话的时候,感觉有点疑惑。

我赶忙打趣的说,cuz my python beat my C++,他们就笑。很轻松愉悦。

  • Follow up email

接下来的一周一定要记得发email询问进程,刷存在感!
