Job Description
AECOM is seeking a well-rounded CIVIL HIGHWAY Engineer to be based in the Newark, DE or Millsboro, DE offices. As part of AECOM’s flexible work policy there can be the ability to work out of other AECOM offices in Philadelphia, PA and Conshohocken, PA at their convenience.
In this role, you will provide technical support to teams working on small to medium scale transportation projects in Delaware while also working with other disciplines such as water resources and structures. A CIVIL HIGHWAY ENGINEER will typically delegate tasks to less experienced engineers while providing technical guidance and support to those individuals. Current notable projects include Airport Road Extension in Rehoboth Beach, DE; SR1 and Cave Neck Road Grade Separated Interchange in Milton, DE; and SR8 and Chestnut Grove-Nault Road Intersection Improvements in Dover, DE.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Design of roadway geometry, traffic control, signing, and pavement markings
- Design of drainage and basic erosion control measures
- Utility coordination support
- Determination of applicable specifications
- Calculation of cost estimates and quantities
- Computer Aided Design production and modeling
- Interdisciplinary coordination
- AECOM project manager support
- Sub-consultant and client interaction
- Perform site visits and field investigations to gather necessary data for project design and implementation
- Prepare technical reports and presentations to communicate project progress, findings, and recommendations
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations throughout the project lifecycle
- Participate in project meetings and client presentations to discuss project details, address concerns, and propose solutions
- Contribute to business development efforts by assisting in proposal preparation and client relationship management
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering plus 2 years of related experience in a Civil Engineering role, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Familiarity with OpenRoads, SignCAD or GuideSign, and AutoTURN software programs
- Design experience with highway drainage, stormwater management and erosion & sediment controls
- Ability and willingness to operate within a hybrid work environment with hybrid teams
- Valid Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices
- Demonstrated experience with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
- Demonstrated experience with spreadsheets, word processing, and standard office software (MS Office)
- Design experience working on projects for DelDOT
- Professional Engineer License (PE) in any state, or ability to obtain a PE within 1 year of hire
